Why the Family Bike Show?
I thought it would be interesting to provide you all with a back ground to the Family Bike Show, and the reasons why it is terribly important to us to bring you all a show and experience to enjoy year after year.
Coming from an events background, Simon has enjoyed getting involved with putting on events and shows for many years. Lisa’s career path has since the late 1990’s been in the high-end property sector in Central London, and is known for her hard work, friendly advice and commitment to see things through to her very best ability.
Combining our talents and interests has always been our burning desire, and we have always said we want to put on great events! Forming our events company, Summer Road Events earlier this year has been great and we have received incredible support from the clients and companies we have worked with along our journey.
Becoming a family in recent years, it would have been easy to forego our fun leisure biking days, but actually the complete opposite has happened. As a family we get very very excited about our cycling and can’t wait to get on our bikes at any opportunity. We aren’t your high speed lycra family – although watch this space! We are just your average family that are lucky to have great spaces nearby to fulfil our family biking fun.
As we have taken this journey together though, we realise that it isn’t naturally easy for families to take time to enjoy bike fun together, and advice for families is sometimes hard to come by, although we know it does exist. We like visiting bike shows, but find there is only a taster for the kids to enjoy and not enough family focused fun and entertainment to give families their ultimate fun day out. So we quickly came to realise that this is something we would really love to do. Our plans soon took shape, and we are thrilled to be now working to bring what we know families of all ages will enjoy.
We also spoke to best known bike brands, and companies involved with family cycling. Companies are obviously now realising that there is a HUGE market for families that cycle, and it is getting bigger and bigger every year. New bikes and ranges are being designed and finally families are delighted to have a great choice to choose from. Many bike brands are now offering their own Demo Days and advice.. but is this what is best for your family.
Coming from a community of family bike riders. We want to go somewhere where we can try and test, get advice and buy across a number of the best bike brands so we can compare and seek the best advice to make our choices. Our children want to have fun and experience safe tracks and trails whilst they try out which bikes they feel comfortable riding.
How hard is it to buy the right accessories for our children, to see a wide amount of choice? How many bike shops have the space and room to give the children a good deal of choice when it comes to clothing, helmets and accessories? We understand that children love to touch whilst they learn, and our young mechanics zone will give kids a chance to learn how to simply maintain their bikes. Our learn to ride zone will offer kids the chance to learn from a professional whilst they attempt to ditch those stabilisers!
But most of all we understand that EVERYONE enjoys a great day out.. and that is what we can promise to give you. With music, play and entertainment for all ages especially the young toddlers who we understand if they are happy and have safe environment to play then Mum and Dad can stay and enjoy!
We have decided to hold the Family Bike Show at Sandown Park, as we wanted to offer both inside and outside fun. We have so much planned for you to enjoy, and are over the moon to have the great cycle tracks including the parade rings.
Whilst we build your show and get everything ready for you to enjoy. We would love to hear from you with what you would enjoy too. So please do let us know.
In the meantime, we are creating the Family Bike Rides page on the site and look forward to inviting you to a series of friendly and easy family bike rides. Our first ride is The Spooky Family Bike Ride (a fancy dress ride) at Imber Court, in Molesey near Esher. This is a lovely easy ride that even the youngest and newest cyclist can enjoy. We are really thankful to have the opportunity to arrange our ride at this great Sports Club with wonderful grounds to explore. It is a lovely easy flat path so even those with stabilisers will be able to join the fun. Older children will enjoy their independence and there are some pretty scenes along the ride.. but watch out there are some spooky ones too!!
